Banana, Ripe

Available year round.

The banana is considered botanically a “berry”. Firm fruit with great eating flavor. Easily bruised – handle with extra care.

Avoid bananas with split skins. Bananas with brown or black spotted peels only indicate ripeness, while the fruit itself remains unchanged. Store at room temperature. Bananas contain several essential nutrients and has benefits for the heart, digestion and weight loss.

Banana, Turning

Available year round.

First color change during warehouse processing, usually seen on the shoulder.

Baby Banana

Available year round.

There are over 300 varieties of banana world wide. Baby bananas are smaller than the most popular yellow banana and are sweeter.  Baby Bananas have a very dense creamy texture with vanilla and caramel undertones.

Banana, Red

Available year round.

Red bananas have a reddish – purple skin, they are short, plump and heartier. It is best to eat them when ripe, highlights are sweet and creamy fruit with raspberry highlights.

Banana, Manzano

Available year round.

One of the varieties of dessert banana is the Manzano. Short, stubby, thick-skinned, golden yellow fruit that is commonly known as the “apple banana”, it has a delicious sweet taste with a hint of apple and strawberry. Manzano Bananas are a great source of fiber, potassium and vitamin C.

Banana, Flower

Available sporadically year-round peaking late fall through early winter

Banana flowers consist of tight petals with white tubular flowers. The colorway of the banana flower runs from red/orange to purple, mainly the flower is starchy and bitter. They are also a good source of vitamins A and C.

Banana, Saba

Available year round.

The Saba banana originated in the Philippines, it is used primarily for cooking. Also processed  into the condiment banana ketchup.

Banana Leaves *IQF

Available year round.

Banana leaves are large, flexible, waterproof and decorative. Used in cooking, wrapping and decorative purposes. They impart an aroma to the food that is being cooked/baked.

Green Plantain

Available year round.

Larger and firmer than traditional bananas, the taste of a plantain is different at every stage of ripeness. They are commonly used like vegetables rather than as fruit because of their high starch and low sugar content. However, as the peel turns from yellow to brown, the starches turn to sugars, making it great for cooking.

Yellow Plantain

Available year round.
