Broccoli: "Calabrese" is the chief comercial variety. Some other varieties include Marathon, Arcadia, Green Belt, Green Duke, and Emperor. Good quality broccoli should have light green stalks that are about the same thickness and no longer than 5 inches long. The head should be compact and purple green in color.
